Thank you for visiting our Website.
Beyond 2009? What's up with that name? We chose it because our site is dedicated to looking forward - beyond the current economic meltdown that we're all facing today. Our goal is to provide you with enough help to get beyond the difficulties caused by this recession. Millions of laid off workers are feeling like the little gold guy on the right. We hope to be able to provide enough assistance to some of those workers that they'll again hold their heads high and be able to tackle the many difficulties they're facing now.
So, what's our site going to be about, and what do we plan to include on it? Well, we've put together several things. With the current state of the economy, we'll focus on several aspects of how these economic conditions affect your own life and what you can do to minimize the effects - Unemployment Compensation, personal finances, making your own personal/family budget, continuing education, ongoing job loss, COBRA health care, etc. Our primary topics will be very relevant to the millions who have been caught up in layoffs due to the downsizing that many companies are implementing as a result of the huge recession that we are facing.
Why do we feel that we know enough to build a Website on this subject? Everybody on our team has been through at least one layoff. Some have been laid off multiple times. Why? Are we just a bunch of losers who can't hold a job? No! We all live in the Texas-Oklahoma area, and are part of an economy that is subject to energy (oil/gas) prices. During the "Booms" we've all worked lots of overtime. During the "Busts" we also faced the consequences of slowdowns, headcount freezes and, of course, layoffs. It's just part of the economy in our region of the country. As a result, we've all learned an assortment of tips and tricks that have helped us get through the lean times. We've all felt the discouragement, the terror, the anger and all of the other emotions that layoffs bring to the surface. So, what we've done is to gather together all of our experiences and tips in order to share them with those workers who have little or no experience with layoffs. It's never easy. It's a difficult situation at best, but there are things that we all can do to lessen the sting. We've categorized the suggestions and prioritized them. We've built a step-by-step plan that can get your finances in order immediately. That project is urgent, and needs to be put in place right now. Once that is in place, you can work on other priorities that will get your life back on track. The financial aspect is the highest priority, and that's where our site comes into play. Give us a chance, and you'll find that your situation can improve quickly.
Layoffs are cold. They're scary too. Layoffs can even be cruel at times. A sudden job loss can be psychologically devastating and, as such, a layoff can adversely affect both your mental and your physical well-being. We all know that hindsight is usually perfect, but dwelling on the past is a very destructive way to live. We all need to shift our focus toward the future, and on to what we need to do to move forward intelligently, purposefully and steadily. The past should be there for us as a learning tool - not as memories to justify punishing ourselves because of the mistakes we made back whenever. We all know the old saying that states "Today is the first day of the rest of your life." It may be old, but it's completely true and relevant to our lives. While we can't change our past, we do have control over our future.
The necessary changes won't be simple. They won't be fast. They certainly won't be easy. But, above all else, they are attainable. Our pasts took us a long time to work our way through, and so will our futures. We'll have to make some tough choices, and probably some major lifestyle changes.
This all sounds bleak and boring doesn't it? To the contrary, our approach will be upbeat, informative, interesting and relevant to many of you. Ultimately, we'll even try to throw in some fun stuff like a few interesting links that might divert your attention away from these difficult times - at least for a short while.
We hope that this site will provide you with some truly useful information that will help to ease the situation you are now facing. Come back regularly as we'll continually update these pages in order to keep the content fresh and relevant to the current economic state. Particularly if you have been (or fear that you might be) caught in a layoff due to the recession. Because of increasing head-count downsizing all over the country, it's imperative that we all prepare for the possibility of being laid off as well as learning how to survive if it actually happens to us. We'll provide help for both situations. If you feel that you have any useful suggestions that could be helpful, please use the form on our Feedback page and let us look over your idea(s). We're very open to constructive suggestions, and we appreciate all helpful feedback.
